Using third-party password managers for passkeys on iOS

Can I use third-party password managers to store passkeys?
Yes, but there are some important limitations — especially regarding your iOS version and the password manager you’re using.

Which password managers support passkeys on iOS

Password Manager Supported from iOS version
iCloud Keychain iOS 16+
1Password iOS 17+
Bitwarden (learn more) iOS 17+

Important: The passkey must be stored in the same manager!

A passkey saved in Google Password Manager will only work with that manager — the same applies to Bitwarden1Password, and others.
Authentication is always tied to the manager where the passkey was originally stored.

How to set a third-party password manager as the default for passkeys

iOS 17 and later:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Go to Passwords

  3. Tap Password Options

  4. Select your preferred password manager from the list
