Using Third-Party Password Managers for Passkeys on Android

Can I use third-party password managers to store Passkeys?

Yes, but there are some important limitations — especially regarding your Android version and the password manager you're using.

Which password managers support Passkeys on Android?

Passwordmanager

Supported from Android-Version

Google Password Manager

Android 9+

Bitwarden, learn more

Android 14+

⚠️ Important Note: Older Android Versions

If you're using Android 13 or earlier, you cannot use third-party password managers for Passkeys. Only Google Password Manager is allowed on these versions.
To use a third-party manager, you need Android 14 or later and must set the desired manager as the default in your system settings.

⚠️ Important: The Passkey must be saved in the same manager!

A Passkey saved in Google Password Manager only works with that manager — the same goes for Bitwarden or others.
Authentication is always tied to the specific manager where the Passkey was stored.

How do I set a third-party password manager as the default for Passkeys?

On Android:

  1. Open device Settings

  2. Search for “Autofill service” or “Password manager

  3. Select your preferred password manager

Examples:

  • Samsung: Settings > General Management > Passwords and Autofill > Autofill service

  • Google Pixel: Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Autofill service
